A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your website, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage.<\/p>\n

To install and run Joomla 2.5 in your CentOS 6 Linux VPS<\/a>, follow these steps. We assume you have installed and configured LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP)<\/a> or LNMP (Linux Nginx MySQL and PHP)<\/a> on your system.<\/p>\n

Step-by-Step Guide<\/h2>\n

1. Make sure your system’s always up-to-date by executing:<\/strong><\/p>\n

# yum update -y<\/pre>\n
2. Download the Joomla 2.5 package\u00a0 to the newly created ‘\/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5’ directory and change to this directory<\/strong>:<\/p>\n
# mkdir -p \/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5 && \\\nwget -P \/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5 \\\nhttp:\/\/joomlacode.org\/gf\/download\/frsrelease\/17410\/76012\/Joomla_2.5.7-Stable-Full_Package.zip && \\\ncd \/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5\/<\/pre>\n
3. Extract the zipped archive to the ‘\/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5’ directory.<\/strong><\/p>\n
# [[ ! $(which unzip 2>\/dev\/null) ]] && yum install unzip && \\\nunzip Joomla*.zip && rm -f Joomla_*.zip && \\\nchown apache: -R \/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5<\/pre>\n
4. Navigate to http:\/\/your-ip\/joomla2.5 and complete your Joomla installation.<\/strong><\/p>\n
You may want to create a virtual host directive for your http:\/\/your-domain<\/strong> to serve the Joomla you just installed in ‘\/var\/www\/html\/joomla2.5’.<\/p>\n
