\"howThis is a short tutorial on how to install Panda3D on Ubuntu 10.04.
Panda3D is an awesome open-source 3D game and simulation engine. It is a 3d rendering and game development framework for C++ and Python applications.<\/p>\n

Panda3D can be used free of charge for all uses, including commercial ventures. The easiest way to install it on our Ubuntu virtual servers<\/a> is to use the DEB packages.<\/p>\n

Before we start<\/h2>\n

It is a good idea to flush the cache where downloaded packages have been stored using the following command:<\/p>\n

sudo apt-get clean<\/pre>\n
Execute the following command:<\/p>\n
sudo vi \/etc\/apt\/sources.list<\/pre>\n
Include the following PPA to your ‘\/etc\/sources.list’ file by adding this line:<\/p>\n
deb http:\/\/archive.panda3d.org\/ubuntu lucid main<\/pre>\n
Alternatively, you can install the python-software-properties package:<\/p>\n
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties<\/pre>\n
then add the following PPA (Personal Package Archives):<\/p>\n
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:panda3d\/ppa<\/pre>\n
Update the virtual server package index with the latest repository changes:<\/p>\n
sudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n
To install the latest panda3d version 1.8, execute the following commands:<\/p>\n
sudo apt-get install panda3d1.8 panda3d-runtime<\/pre>\n
Also, you can install the previous stable version of panda3d (panda3d version 1.7) using the following command:<\/p>\n
sudo apt-get install panda3d1.7 panda3d-runtime<\/pre>\n
You can check if panda3d and panda3d-runtime packages are installed on your server:<\/p>\n
sudo dpkg -l | grep panda3d<\/pre>\n
If the output of the previous command is something like:<\/p>\n
panda3d-runtime 1.0.4-1~lucid1 Runtime binary and browser plugin for the Pa\npanda3d1.7 1.7.2-1~lucid3 The Panda3D free 3D engine SDK<\/pre>\n
Then you successfully installed Panda3D on your Ubuntu virtual server<\/a>.<\/p>\n
