To install VTEDDY on an Ubuntu VPS<\/a> follow the very easy steps described below.<\/p>\n

Make sure your Ubuntu 14.04 Linux VPS is fully up to date using:<\/p>\n

# apt-get update\r\n# apt-get upgrade<\/pre>\n
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL VTEDDY<\/strong><\/p>\n
Let’s navigate to Apache’s document root and download VTEDDY there. You can find the document root in the default configuration file in your Apache configuration directory. You can check it using the following command:<\/p>\n
# grep DocumentRoot \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/000-default.conf<\/pre>\n
Output:<\/strong><\/p>\n
DocumentRoot \/var\/www\/html<\/pre>\n
The below commands will enter the above mentioned directory, download and extract the VTEDDY installation archive:<\/p>\n
# cd \/var\/www\/html\r\n\r\n# wget http:\/\/downloads.sourceforge.net\/project\/vteddy\/vteddy.tgz\r\n\r\n# tar -xzf vteddy.tgz<\/pre>\n
You need to set the proper permissions and ownership of the newly created ‘vteddy<\/em>‘ directory. Issue the following:<\/p>\n
# chmod 755 vteddy\r\n\r\n# chown www-data: vteddy<\/pre>\n
CREATE VTEDDY DATABASE<\/strong><\/p>\n
Next thing you need to do is to create a database. Login to your MySQL service as root:<\/p>\n
# mysql -u root -p\r\n\r\nmysql> CREATE DATABASE vteddy;\r\n\r\nmysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on vteddy.* TO 'vtuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'your_password';\r\n\r\nmysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;\r\n\r\nmysql> quit;<\/pre>\n
Create a new virtual host directive in Apache. Copy the default configuration file and replace it with the name of your choice. For our purposes we will name the file vteddy.conf<\/em>. Execute the following command:<\/p>\n
# cp \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/000-default.conf \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/vteddy.conf<\/pre>\n
Now, open the file with your favorite text editor and replace the specific values with the ones needed.<\/p>\n
# vim \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/vteddy.conf<\/pre>\n
In the end the file should have the following values set:<\/p>\n
<VirtualHost *:80>\r\n\r\nServerAdmin webmaster@your_domain\r\nServerName your_domain\r\nDocumentRoot \/var\/www\/html\/vteddy\r\n\r\nErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}\/error.log\r\nCustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}\/access.log combined\r\n\r\n<\/VirtualHost><\/pre>\n
Save and exit the file. Now activate the virtual host configuration:<\/p>\n
# a2ensite vteddy<\/pre>\n
Restart Apache for the changes to take effect:<\/p>\n
# \/etc\/init.d\/apache2 restart<\/pre>\n
You can now finish your VTEDDY installation by opening your favorite web browser and navigate to: http:\/\/your_domain\/<\/p>\n
You will be welcomed by VTEDDY configuration wizard.<\/p>\n

Press install and proceed with the installation. Further, the system will check your PHP configurations. You need to make sure that the required values are in compliance with present values. The recommended PHP settings are not mandatory, so if they are not complied, the installation will not stop. For your reference if there are values that need to be changed, you need to edit the \/etc\/php5\/apache2\/php.ini file. Of course after editing, don’t forget to restart your Apache web server for the changes to take effect.<\/p>\n
After the system check, you will need to set the system configuration in the next window. Enter the MySQL values from the MySQL database that you created, set your URL, admin password, email and finish the installation.<\/p>\n
When the installation is successful you will be welcomed by the following:<\/p>\n
