sudo apt-get upgrade\nsudo apt-get install curl nano git\n<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-1-Install-MySQL-and-Create-a-Database\"><\/span>Step 1: Install MySQL and Create a Database<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Run the following command to install the latest MySQL 5.7 server from the official Ubuntu repositories:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install mysql-server<\/pre>\n<p>Once the installation is complete, issue the following command to improve the security of your MySQL server installation (we recommend answering with &#8216;Y&#8217; to every prompt):<\/p>\n<pre>mysql_secure_installation<\/pre>\n<p>Next, we need to create a MySQL database and user for the new Magento installation.<\/p>\n<p>Login to the MySQL console:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo mysql<\/pre>\n<p>Run the following commands to create a new database, user, and to grant privileges for the database to the user:<\/p>\n<pre>mysql&gt; CREATE DATABASE magento;\nmysql&gt; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON magento.* TO 'magento'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY '<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">my_strong_password<\/span>';\nmysql&gt; FLUSH PRIVILEGES;\nmysql&gt; \\q<\/pre>\n<p>Remember to replace <code>my_strong_password<\/code> with an actual strong password.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-2-Install-PHP-72-Composer-and-Required-PHP-Modules\"><\/span>Step 2: Install PHP 7.2, Composer and Required PHP Modules<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Since version 2.3 Magento 2 is fully compatible with PHP 7.2.<\/p>\n<p>To install the latest stable version of PHP 7.2 and all necessary modules, run:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install php7.2-fpm php7.2-common php7.2-gd php7.2-mysql php7.2-curl php7.2-intl php7.2-xsl php7.2-mbstring php7.2-zip php7.2-bcmath php7.2-soap php7.2-opcache<\/pre>\n<p>Set the recommended PHP settings:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo sed -i \"s\/memory_limit = .*\/memory_limit = 768M\/\" \/etc\/php\/7.2\/fpm\/php.ini\nsudo sed -i \"s\/upload_max_filesize = .*\/upload_max_filesize = 128M\/\" \/etc\/php\/7.2\/fpm\/php.ini\nsudo sed -i \"s\/zlib.output_compression = .*\/zlib.output_compression = on\/\" \/etc\/php\/7.2\/fpm\/php.ini\nsudo sed -i \"s\/max_execution_time = .*\/max_execution_time = 18000\/\" \/etc\/php\/7.2\/fpm\/php.ini\n<\/pre>\n<p>Composer is a PHP dependency manager that allows you to install PHP packages. The composer will pull in all of the required libraries and dependencies you need for this project.<\/p>\n<pre>curl -sS https:\/\/getcomposer.org\/installer | php\nsudo mv composer.phar \/usr\/local\/bin\/composer<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Install-Magento\"><\/span>Step 3: Install Magento<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the time of writing this tutorial, the latest stable version is Magento 2.3.0.<\/p>\n<p>Clone the Magento repository to the <code>\/var\/www\/myMagentoSite.com<\/code> directory using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo git clone https:\/\/github.com\/magento\/magento2.git \/var\/www\/myMagentoSite.com<\/pre>\n<p>Navigate to the Magento directory:<\/p>\n<pre>cd \/var\/www\/myMagentoSite.com<\/pre>\n<p>Run Composer to install all Magento dependencies:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo composer install<\/pre>\n<p>The command can take some time to complete. Once completed, you&#8217;ll see the following output:<\/p>\n<pre>Generating autoload files\n<\/pre>\n<p>To continue with the installation, you can either use the installation wizard or the command line. In this guide we will install Magento using the <code>setup:install<\/code> command.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following command to start the installation. Do not forget to set the correct MySQL database information.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo bin\/magento setup:install \\\n--base-url=http:\/\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span>\/ \\\n--db-host=localhost \\\n--db-name=magento \\\n--db-user=magento \\\n--db-password=<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">my_strong_password<\/span> \\\n--admin-firstname=First  \\\n--admin-lastname=Last \\\n--admin-email=user@<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span> \\\n--admin-user=admin \\\n--admin-password=<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">my_strong_password123<\/span> \\\n--language=en_US \\\n--currency=USD \\\n--timezone=America\/Chicago \\\n--use-rewrites=1\n<\/pre>\n<p>If the installation is successful, you will see something like the message below:<\/p>\n<pre>[SUCCESS]: Magento installation complete.\n[SUCCESS]: Magento Admin URI: \/admin_1kd5tz\nNothing to import.\n<\/pre>\n<p>Remember the Magento admin URI &#8211; you&#8217;ll need it to access your Magento installation later.<\/p>\n<p>Set the correct permissions:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo chown -R www-data: \/var\/www\/myMagentoSite.com<\/pre>\n<p>Run the following command to create the Magento crontab:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo -u www-data php bin\/magento cron:install<\/pre>\n<pre>Crontab has been generated and saved<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-4-Install-and-configure-Nginx\"><\/span>Step 4: Install and configure Nginx<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Install Nginx from the official Ubuntu repositories using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install nginx<\/pre>\n<p>Create a new Nginx server block called <code>myMagentoSite.com<\/code>\u00a0(You should change this to your domain name)::<\/p>\n<pre>sudo nano \/etc\/nginx\/sites-available\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Then paste\u00a0the following content into the file:<\/p>\n<pre>upstream fastcgi_backend {\n  server   unix:\/run\/php\/php7.2-fpm.sock;\n}\n\nserver {\n    server_name <code>myMagentoSite.com<\/code> <code>www.myMagentoSite.com<\/code>; listen 80; set $MAGE_ROOT \/var\/www\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span>; set $MAGE_MODE developer; # or production access_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span>-access.log; error_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span>-error.log; include \/var\/www\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span>\/nginx.conf.sample; }<\/pre>\n<p>Activate the server block by creating a symbolic link :<\/p>\n<pre>sudo ln -s \/etc\/nginx\/sites-available\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span> \/etc\/nginx\/sites-enabled\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">myMagentoSite.com<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Delete the default Nginx configuration:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo rm -f \/etc\/nginx\/sites-enabled\/default<\/pre>\n<p>Test the Nginx configuration:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo nginx -t<\/pre>\n<pre>nginx: the configuration file \/etc\/nginx\/nginx.conf syntax is ok\nnginx: configuration file \/etc\/nginx\/nginx.conf test is successful\n<\/pre>\n<p>Restart the nginx server for changes to take effect:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo service nginx restart<\/pre>\n<p>You should be now able to log in to your Magento back-end by going to <code>http:\/\/myMagentoSite.com\/admin_1kd5tz<\/code> using the information you set when running the <code>bin\/magento setup:install<\/code> command.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it. You have successfully installed Magento 2 with MySQL and Nginx on your Ubuntu 18.04 VPS.
