It has several features considered typical of an e-learning platform, in addition to some original innovations like its filtering system. Moodle is a learning management system (LMS) and can be used in many types of environments such as in education, training and development, and business settings.<\/p>\n

In this guide, we\u2019ll show you how to install Moodle on a Linux VPS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

First you need to login to your\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Centos 6<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>virtual private server as user \u2018root\u2019 .<\/span><\/p>\n

# ssh root@hostname<\/pre>\n
Install PHP extensions<\/p>\n
# yum -y install\u00a0 php-common php-cli php-pear php php-pdo php-mysql libXpm php-gd php-xml php-mbstring php-xmlrpc php-intl php-soap<\/pre>\n
Restart Apache web server<\/p>\n
\/etc\/init.d\/httpd restart<\/pre>\n
Download Moodle in \/opt<\/p>\n
# cd \/opt\n\n# wget http:\/\/nchc.dl.sourceforge.net\/project\/moodle\/Moodle\/stable26\/moodle-latest-26.tgz<\/pre>\n
Extract Moodle and move the installation into your document root directory (which in our case is \/var\/www\/html\/):<\/p>\n
# tar xvzf moodle-latest-26.tgz\n# mv moodle\/ \/var\/www\/html\/<\/pre>\n
Now we need to create a MySQL database and user. Enter into MySQL as root:<\/p>\n
# mysql -u root -p\n\nmysql> create database moodle;\n\nmysql> grant all privileges on moodle.* to 'moodleuser'@'localhost' identified by 'YOUR_PASSWORD';\n\nmysql> flush privileges;\n\nmysql> exit<\/pre>\n
Set the owner and group of Moodle as apache.\u00a0 We also need to create a moodledata directory in \/var\/www\/ for the files that are created by the Moodle interface, then set the correct permissions of \/var\/www\/html\/moodle and the newly created \/var\/www\/moodledata directory.<\/p>\n
# chown -R apache:apache \/var\/www\/html\/moodle\n\n# chmod -R 755 \/var\/www\/html\/moodle\n\n# mkdir \/var\/www\/moodledata\n\n# chown -R apache:apache \/var\/www\/moodledata<\/pre>\n
You can start the installation of Moodle from your favorite browser using\u00a0 http:\/\/Your_Public_IP\/moodle. Follow the instructions and enter your MySQL database and user credentials when prompted.<\/p>\n
