Add System User<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new system user will run Magento. Let&#8217;s create a new system user now. Execute the command below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code># \/usr\/sbin\/adduser \\\n   --system \\\n   --shell \/bin\/bash \\\n   --gecos 'Magento user' \\\n   --group \\\n   --home \/opt\/magento \\\nmagento<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, it is time to give the new user a password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code># passwd magento<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The command will prompt you to enter the password for the &#8216;magento&#8217; user twice; the password will not be displayed on your screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, let&#8217;s give the new user a sudo privilege and add the www-data user to the Magento group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code># usermod -aG sudo magento\n# gpasswd -a www-data magento<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s switch to the new user now. Install Nginx<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can use Apache or Nginx as the web server. You can find detailed information on the system requirements on the <a href=\"https:\/\/experienceleague.adobe.com\/en\/docs\/commerce-operations\/installation-guide\/system-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adobe site<\/a>. In this step, we will use Nginx as the web server. Let&#8217;s install it now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo apt install nginx -y<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, we need to create an nginx server block for our Magento website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo nano \/etc\/nginx\/sites-enabled\/magento.conf<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Insert the following into the configuration file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>upstream fastcgi_backend {\nserver unix:\/run\/php\/magento.sock;\n}\n\nserver {\n    server_name yourdomain.com;\n    listen 80;\n    set $MAGE_ROOT \/opt\/magento\/website;\n    set $MAGE_MODE production;\n\n    access_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/magento-access.log;\n    error_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/magento-error.log;\n\n    include \/opt\/magento\/website\/nginx.conf.sample;\n}<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Save the file, then exit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-5-install-opensearch\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-5-Install-Opensearch\"><\/span>Step 5. Install Opensearch<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Magento 2.4.8 has completely dropped official support for Elasticsearch and mandates a migration to OpenSearch as the default and required catalog search solution. In this step, we will install OpenSearch and then modify its default settings. Let&#8217;s execute the commands below to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo apt install curl gnupg2\n$ curl -o- https:\/\/artifacts.opensearch.org\/publickeys\/opensearch.pgp | sudo gpg --dearmor --batch --yes -o \/usr\/share\/keyrings\/opensearch-keyring\n$ echo \"deb &#91;signed-by=\/usr\/share\/keyrings\/opensearch-keyring] https:\/\/artifacts.opensearch.org\/releases\/bundle\/opensearch\/2.x\/apt stable main\" | sudo tee \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/opensearch-2.x.list\n$ sudo apt update<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>With the repository information added, we can list all available versions of OpenSearch:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo apt list -a opensearch<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The command will return this output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>magento@ubuntu26:~$ sudo apt list -a opensearch\nListing... We need to use a minimum 8-character password that must contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one digit, and one special character that is strong<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, OpenSearch uses SSL, but Magento doesn&#8217;t. So we need to disable the SSL plugin in OpenSearch for a successful Magento installation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo nano \/etc\/opensearch\/opensearch.yml<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>And add this to the end of yml file:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>plugins.security.disabled: true<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Save the file, then exit. Install MySQL Server<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ubuntu 26.04 ships with MySQL 8.4 and MariaDB 11.8. At the moment of this writing, only MariaDB version 11.4 and lower and MySQL 8.4 are supported by Magento. So, we need to install the MySQL server instead of MariaDB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo apt install mysql-server<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once installed, we can proceed to create a new database and a user for our Magento website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>$ sudo mysql <\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once logged in to the MySQL shell, we can run these commands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>mysql&gt; CREATE USER 'magento'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'm0d1fyth15';\nmysql&gt; CREATE DATABASE magentodb;\nmysql&gt; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON magentodb.* TO 'magento'@'localhost';\nmysql&gt; FLUSH PRIVILEGES;\nmysql&gt; \\q<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-7-install-composer\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-7-Install-Composer\"><\/span>Step 7. Install Composer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Magento will be installed using Composer. In this step, we will install Composer. Once logged in, create an access key.
